Over 100 Rwandan refugees, mostly women and children, have been repatriated to Rwanda from Congo.
Hundreds of Rwandan refugees, mostly women and children who fled to Congo after the 1994 genocide, have been repatriated under a UN program. They were escorted by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and Save the Children and transported to a transit center for reintegration support. This repatriation is part of a decade-old agreement between Rwanda, Congo, and UNHCR, intending to return 2,000 individuals. Over 101,000 refugees have been repatriated since the program's inception, including 1,500 this year.
