This ring, symbolizing the pope's role as St. Peter's successor, is usually given by the Camerlengo or Dean of the College of Cardinals, marking a departure from tradition. The ceremony is expected to draw up to 200,000 pilgrims. Pope Leo XIV, elected on May 8, is the first American pope in the Church's history.
