Vancouver buys $410,000 in mobile barriers after festival attack.
Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim and the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) are responding to the April Lapu-Lapu Day festival attack by purchasing $410,000 worth of mobile vehicle barriers.
Each 700-pound barrier can be deployed by one person and has been used at events like the Lunar New Year parade and Vancouver BMO Marathon.
Despite their availability, they were not recommended for the festival due to low-risk assessment.
The VPD plans to use lighter barriers at next year's event.
