Rare Bryde's whale washes ashore in Vancouver Island, far north of its typical habitat.
A rare Bryde's whale, typically found in warmer waters, has washed ashore on a remote beach in Vancouver Island's Port McNeill Bay. This species is rarely seen north of 35° latitude. The 'Na̱mg̱is First Nation from nearby Cormorant Island and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans were informed via the Marine Mammal Incident Reporting Line. This is the third whale carcass found in B.C. waters this month.
