Pakistani Sunni Ittehad Council seeks Supreme Court review over constitutional amendment impact on judicial independence.

The Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) in Pakistan has asked the Supreme Court to delay the reserved seats case proceedings and reconsider the impact of the recent 26th Constitutional Amendment. SIC filed three applications demanding live telecast of hearings, reconstitution of the current review bench, and restoration of the original 12-judge bench. They argue the amendment undermines judicial independence and was passed to nullify unfavorable judgments. The SIC also claims the Judicial Commission of Pakistan can influence court jurisdiction under executive control.
