Cherokee Nation expands food and senior services with a $2.8 million upgrade in Nowata.
The Cherokee Nation has expanded its Nowata Food Distribution and Senior Nutrition Site with a $2.8 million upgrade, adding a 1,500-square-foot warehouse, a 500-square-foot dining area expansion, and a 1,500-square-foot freezer.
The facility, opened in 2012, serves as both a food distribution center and a senior nutrition site, providing free groceries to over 400 households and meals to about 700 seniors each month.
The expansion, planned during the pandemic, aims to improve food security for the community.
