Missouri lawmakers voted to repeal the state's abortion-rights amendment and replace it with a near-ban on abortions.
Missouri lawmakers approved a referendum to repeal the state's abortion-rights amendment, passed by voters six months ago, and replace it with a ban on most abortions, except in cases of rape, incest, and medical emergencies.
The measure would go to voters in November 2026 or earlier if Governor Mike Kehoe calls a special election.
This move follows the U.S. Supreme Court's 2022 decision to end the nationwide right to abortion.
Lawmakers also passed a measure to repeal voter-approved paid sick leave and minimum wage increases, which will become law upon the Governor's signature.
