Chinese jailed blogger Yang Hengjun thanks Australia for efforts to secure his release for medical care.

Australian pro-democracy blogger Yang Hengjun, jailed in China since 2019, wrote a letter to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, thanking him and the Australian government for their support and efforts to bring him home for medical care and family reunification. Yang, who received a two-year suspended death sentence in 2024 for espionage charges he denies, also thanked Foreign Minister Penny Wong and diplomats for their support. His family claims he has been subjected to torture.
