India allows foreign law firms to handle non-litigious cases, aiming to boost foreign investments.
The Bar Council of India (BCI) has amended its rules to allow foreign law firms and lawyers to practice non-litigious matters, like corporate and transactional law, in India. This change aims to boost foreign investments and enhance the legal sector's global competitiveness. Foreign lawyers must register and cannot operate without an Indian entity. They can advise on foreign and international law, but their total stay in India cannot exceed 60 days in a year. This move is meant to attract international expertise while protecting Indian advocates' interests.
