India's major ports set a new record in the fiscal year 2024-25, handling 855 million tonnes of cargo, a 4.3% increase from the previous year.
This growth was driven by higher container throughput, fertilizer, and petroleum, oil, and lubricants (POL) handling.
Paradip and Deendayal ports surpassed 150 million tonnes for the first time, and Jawaharlal Nehru Port set a new record by handling 7.3 million TEUs, up 13.5% year-over-year.
Private sector investment in port projects also tripled, from Rs 1,329 crore to Rs 3,986 crore.
