The Virginia Department of Health has issued a fish consumption advisory for the Chickahominy Watershed due to high levels of PFOS, a harmful chemical. Residents are advised not to eat fish from White Oak Swamp and to limit consumption to two meals per month from the Chickahominy River. The advisory affects largemouth bass, sunfish, chain pickerel, and creek chubsucker. The chemical has been linked to serious health issues, including cancer.
