The Ontario government plans to build four small modular reactors at the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station east of Toronto, with the first reactor set for completion by 2030.
The project, estimated to cost $21 billion, aims to meet growing electricity demands and create 18,000 jobs, including 3,700 highly skilled positions.
Once operational, the reactors are expected to power 1.2 million homes and operate for 65 years.
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission has approved the project.
