Study finds climate change made recent deadly US storms 40% more likely and 9% more intense.
Scientists from the World Weather Attribution group found that climate change intensified deadly storms in the US South and Midwest in early April, making them 9% more intense and 40% more likely to occur.
The storms, which led to at least 24 deaths, were fueled by unusually warm waters in the Gulf of Mexico, 14 times more likely due to climate change.
The study warns that without rapid shifts away from fossil fuels, such extreme weather events will become more frequent and severe.
