Bulgarian engineer sentenced to 10 years for helping smuggle €21.6M of cocaine into Ireland.
Bulgarian maritime engineer Nikola Penchev, 34, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for helping smuggle €21.6 million worth of cocaine into Ireland for a Brazilian drug cartel.
Penchev pleaded guilty at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court after being arrested by Revenue officials and Gardaí.
He was recruited by his friend Kamen Petkov, who was also jailed for 10 years, to assist in dumping the drugs at Foynes Port, Co Limerick.
The ship had traveled from Canada to Brazil and back before reaching Ireland.
