Scientists reveal "air-dried chaplain" mummy's preservation secrets and cause of death as hydrocephalus.
Scientists have uncovered details about an 18th-century Austrian mummy known as the "air-dried chaplain," found in the St. Thomas am Blasenstein church crypt.
The mummy's exceptional preservation is attributed to zinc chloride, wood chips, and embroidered fabric inside the body, a technique not previously documented.
Researchers also identified the cause of death as hydrocephalus and revealed a glass sphere near the remains.
