UN judge Lydia Mugambe sentenced to 6 years for enslaving a Ugandan woman while at Oxford.
United Nations judge Lydia Mugambe, also a High Court judge in Uganda, has been sentenced to six years and four months in prison for forcing a young Ugandan woman to work as a slave while studying at Oxford University.
Mugambe exploited the woman's lack of knowledge about employment rights and conspired with Ugandan deputy high commissioner John Leonard Mugerwa to bring her to the UK.
The victim, granted asylum in the UK due to a fear of persecution in Uganda, was compelled to work as a maid and provide childcare.
Mugambe has resigned from her UN position.
