Smith Packing recalls nearly 19,000 pounds of deli meats due to high sodium nitrite levels.
Smith Packing, a meat processor in Utica, has recalled nearly 19,000 pounds of ready-to-eat meats, including sausages, sliced deli meats, and poultry, due to excessive sodium nitrite levels.
The affected products, mostly from the Honest John and As-Salaam brands, were produced between February 19 and April 24 and distributed in New York.
Though no illness reports have surfaced, excessive sodium nitrite can pose health risks.
Most of the recalled items were in warehouses.
