Over 98% of Rs 2,000 banknotes have been returned to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) since their withdrawal was announced two years ago.
As of April 30, 2025, notes worth Rs 6,266 crore remain in circulation.
The RBI initiated the withdrawal in May 2023, reducing the total value from Rs 3.56 lakh crore to Rs 6,266 crore.
The remaining notes are still legal tender and can be deposited at RBI issue offices or sent through India Post.
