New Zealand reviews police swim training after 349 recruits failed swim tests since January 2024.
New Zealand's Police Commissioner is reviewing the swim training policy for police recruits after 349 constables missed their swim assessments since January 2024.
The review comes after concerns that the previous government's relaxation of swim requirements in 2017 compromised public and police safety.
The current government supports a return to a 20-week training course, up from the 16-week course previously in place.
The 349 recruits must now complete the assessments in their home districts within four months.
