Winnipeg man charged with fraud for setting up fake fundraiser, collecting over $11,600.

A 20-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged with fraud and theft after setting up a fake online fundraiser for the family of a teen who died in a car crash in 2022. The man collected over $11,600 from about 240 donors, routing the money to his personal bank account. Some donors have been reimbursed, and authorities advise reporting any suspicious activity to local police or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
