UK football bans transgender women from women’s leagues starting June 2025, following a Supreme Court ruling.
The English and Scottish Football Associations have announced that transgender women will be barred from playing in women’s football starting June 1, 2025, in England, and from the 2025/26 season in Scotland. This follows a UK Supreme Court ruling that defines a "woman" based on biological sex at birth. Previously, the FA allowed transgender women to play if they met specific testosterone criteria, but that policy has been revoked. The change applies to all levels of women's football in both countries.
