Indian regulator allows Air India to extend pilot duty hours due to Pakistan's airspace ban.
India's aviation regulator has temporarily allowed Air India to extend the duty hours and rest periods for pilots on long-haul flights to the U.S. due to Pakistan's airspace ban.
Effective from April 30 for about two weeks, this exemption increases the maximum flight duty period for a 12-hour flight from 14 to 16 hours and for longer flights from 22 to 24 hours.
Extra rest periods have also been added.
The ban is causing longer journey times and higher fuel costs, with Air India estimating a potential loss of $600 million if the ban lasts a year.
