Nigerian NJC orders governor to reverse chief judge appointment, cites constitutional violation.
The National Judicial Council (NJC) in Nigeria has ordered Governor Hope Uzodimma to reverse the appointment of Theophilus Nzeukwu as the Acting Chief Judge of Imo State, citing a constitutional violation.
The NJC also suspended three judges for misconduct, including a Court of Appeal Justice for one year without pay.
Former National Human Rights Commission chairman Prof. Chidi Odinkalu accused the NJC of being "deeply complicit in judicial corruption," suggesting that the council's handling of corrupt judges is inadequate and fails to uphold judicial integrity.
