Nebraska governor extends burn ban in western and central parts due to high wildfire risks.
Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen has extended a ban on prescribed burning in western and central parts of the state through May 10, due to dry conditions that raise wildfire risks.
The ban covers areas west of a line from the South Dakota to Kansas borders, following a prescribed burn that spiraled into the "Plum Creek Fire," burning over 7,000 acres and killing 45 cattle.
The ban is lifted for eastern Nebraska, except during red flag warnings.
