An 81-year-old former scout leader and school housemaster, Richard Burrows, was convicted of 54 offenses including indecent assault, buggery, and indecency with a child. He abused 24 boys between 1968 and 1995 and fled to Thailand in 1997, spending 27 years on the run. Arrested in 2021, Burrows pleaded guilty to another 43 charges, including making indecent images of children. Judge Steven Everett emphasized that only Burrows was to blame for the victims' suffering.
