Three sets of ancestral Hawaiian remains taken to Belfast in the 1840s have been repatriated.
Three sets of ancestral Hawaiian remains, known as iwi kupuna, taken from burial caves in the 19th century and brought to Belfast, have been repatriated by National Museums Northern Ireland.
The remains were originally taken by ethnologist Gordon Augustus Thomson in 1840.
The repatriation took place in a private ceremony and was followed by a public event at the Ulster Museum, attended by Hawaiian and U.S. representatives.
This is the third repatriation from Belfast to Hawaii in recent years, with the museum committing to searching for additional remains.
