An injured backcountry skier with a broken femur was successfully rescued from steep, snowy terrain near Tahoe at 8,000 feet on April 19. The challenging night rescue required multiple agencies, including the Nevada County Sheriff's Office and CAL FIRE NEU, with CALSTAR and Falcon 30 conducting the hoist operation using night vision goggles. The skier was flown to Boreal Ski Resort and then taken to Tahoe Forest Hospital.
