India halts direct trade with Pakistan, pushing Pakistan to seek goods via third countries at higher costs.
India has halted formal trade with Pakistan, leading the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) to predict that Pakistan will seek Indian goods through third countries at higher costs.
This move comes after India revoked Pakistan's Most Favored Nation status and imposed a 200% import duty in 2019.
Despite the halt, India exported $447.7 million in goods to Pakistan in the current fiscal year, mainly pharmaceuticals and auto parts.
GTRI estimates about $10 billion in trade continues via re-export routes through countries like the UAE and Singapore.
