Italian energy firm Eni secured £2 billion for the Liverpool Bay Carbon Capture and Storage project, which will create 2,000 jobs and store CO2 from North West England and North Wales industries. The project, backed by the UK government, aims to reduce emissions by transporting CO₂ to storage in Eni's depleted gas reservoirs under Liverpool Bay. Construction starts this year, with operations beginning in 2028, targeting 4.5 million tons of CO2 storage annually, potentially increasing to 10 million tons by the 2030s.
