Scotland's Lord Advocate has ordered a criminal prosecution of HMP Addiewell, a private prison run by Sodexo, over the death of inmate Calum Inglis, who died from COVID-19 in October 2021. Inglis, a 34-year-old asthmatic who was unvaccinated, reportedly requested medical help but received none. This marks the first prosecution of a private prison in Scotland related to the pandemic.
