Kenya keeps math compulsory in schools, altering earlier plans to make it optional.
Kenya's Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has confirmed that mathematics will remain compulsory in primary and secondary schools after consultations with stakeholders. The initial proposal to make it optional was dropped due to concerns about its impact on workforce development and educational standards. Arts students will now learn a simplified version of the subject. This decision follows the roll-out of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).
