Ireland misses 2024 social housing target by 20%, but exceeds affordable housing goal.

In 2024, Ireland fell short of its social housing targets by almost 20%, delivering 10,596 homes instead of the 12,930 planned. New builds were 7,871, falling short by over 1,400 units. The Minister for Housing, James Browne, acknowledged the shortfall and will publish quarterly reports to track local authority performance. Despite this, 7,126 affordable homes were delivered, exceeding the 6,400 target.
