A fire in a Jeep SUV closed both bores of the Caldecott Tunnel on Wednesday, reopening partially by evening.

A vehicle fire involving a Jeep SUV occurred in the eastbound Caldecott Tunnel on Highway 24 around 4:19 p.m. on Wednesday, causing the closure of both Bore 1 and Bore 2. The fire was extinguished by firefighters from Oakland and neighboring areas by 5 p.m., with no injuries reported. Bore 2 reopened at 5:43 p.m., but Bore 1 remained closed with no set reopening time. The California Highway Patrol and Oakland Fire Department were involved in the response.
