Russian activist Darya Kozyreva sentenced to three years for protesting the war in Ukraine.
A 19-year-old Russian activist, Darya Kozyreva, has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison for protesting against Russia's war in Ukraine.
She was arrested after attaching a verse by Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko to a statue and calling the war "monstrous" in an interview with Radio Free Europe.
Memorial, a Russian human rights group, and Amnesty International have condemned the sentence, describing Kozyreva as a political prisoner.
Kozyreva is one of an estimated 234 people imprisoned in Russia for their anti-war stance.
