Study finds EVs increase CO2 emissions in 26 countries due to lack of renewable energy sources.

A recent study by researchers from the University of Auckland and Xiamen University found that electric vehicle (EV) adoption in 26 countries has been linked to increased CO2 emissions over the past 15 years. The study indicates that EVs only reduce emissions if renewable energy makes up about 48% of a country's electricity mix. Currently, renewables account for only 30% of global electricity. The researchers suggest that to benefit from EVs, governments need to boost renewable energy use through ambitious targets and subsidies.
