A retired Indian Army colonel and his wife were scammed out of Rs 49 lakh (about $65,000) in a "digital arrest" scam.
Fraudsters posing as Mumbai Crime Branch officers accused the couple of laundering money and forced them to transfer funds to a provided account under threat of investigation.
The scam was reported on April 10, and a case was registered at the Mandi Cyber Crime police station; Rs 5.58 lakh was frozen in suspicious accounts.
