The Broome County Sheriff's Office reported a 38% rise in DWI charges in 2025's first quarter compared to 2024, following the launch of the STOP-DWI program in January.
Funded by fines from convicted drunk drivers, the program added a patrol deputy who made 24 DWI arrests, conducted 275 vehicle stops, issued 287 tickets, and made 44 arrests total.
Additionally, Seneca County is participating in a statewide effort to prevent impaired driving on 4/20, focusing on marijuana-related traffic safety.
