Scientists have captured the first live footage of a colossal squid in its natural habitat, 1,968 feet deep in the South Atlantic Ocean. The juvenile squid, about one foot long, was filmed by the Schmidt Ocean Institute's research vessel Falkor using a remotely operated vehicle. The elusive creature, which can grow up to 23 feet and weigh over 1,100 pounds, has rarely been seen alive due to its sensitive eyes. This footage offers new insights into the squid's early life behavior.
