UK expands free ferry travel for young islanders to ages 19-21, aiding access to jobs and education.
The UK government has expanded its free ferry travel voucher scheme to include young island residents aged 19-21.
Starting June 23, these individuals can make four single or two return journeys from their home islands to the mainland for free.
The initiative covers residents in Orkney, Shetland, the Outer Hebrides, and various council areas.
The scheme originally supported those aged 16-18 and full-time volunteers up to 25.
Transport Secretary Fiona Hyslop noted the expansion aims to improve access to work and education opportunities.
