Scientists find first footprints of tail-clubbed ankylosaurids in Canada, dated 100-94 million years ago.
Researchers have discovered the first known footprints of armored dinosaurs with tail clubs, known as ankylosaurids, in Canada's British Columbia and Alberta regions.
Dating back 100 to 94 million years, these three-toed prints fill a gap in the fossil record, indicating ankylosaurids existed in North America during the mid-Cretaceous period.
The discovery, led by Dr. Victoria Arbour and published in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology, includes a new species named Ruopodosaurus clava.
