Karnataka High Court orders Google India to provide bank guarantees over alleged foreign exchange violations.
The Karnataka High Court has ordered Google India and three of its executives to provide bank guarantees for half of the penalties imposed due to alleged Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) violations.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) imposed a total penalty of Rs 5.45 crore for transactions worth Rs 364 crore, which the ED claims were commercial loans needing RBI approval.
Google India contests these claims, arguing the transactions were not foreign exchange borrowings.
