NSW Chief Justice criticizes legal training for lawyers, deeming it costly and of low quality.
New South Wales Chief Justice Andrew Bell has raised concerns over the costly and low-quality practical legal training (PLT) required for lawyers.
A survey of over 2,500 recent graduates and supervisors showed that only 43% found assignments practical, and only 40% thought teaching methods were satisfactory.
The survey described PLT as a "box-ticking exercise."
In response, a PLT working group has been formed to consider reforms to address these issues.
