The Los Angeles City Council has approved a significant increase in trash collection fees to address a $1 billion budget shortfall.
The fees for single-family homes and duplexes will rise from $36.32 to $55.94, a 54% increase, with an additional 18% rise over four fiscal years, hitting $65.93 by 2029.
For apartments with three to four units, fees will jump from $24.33 to $55.94.
The increases aim to reduce the general fund subsidy for the program and comply with waste diversion laws.
Residents can challenge the fees under Proposition 218.
