Adults with RSV-linked respiratory infections have a 2.7 times higher one-year death risk, study finds.
A recent study at ESCMID Global 2025 found that adults with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)-associated acute respiratory infections face a 2.7 times higher risk of death within one year compared to the general population.
The study analyzed 5,289 adults with RSV-ARI from 2011 to 2022 and found they had higher hospitalization rates, more frequent exacerbations of COPD and asthma, and higher ICU admissions.
Direct healthcare costs for these patients were more than double those without RSV-ARI.
Researchers recommend prioritizing vaccination for vulnerable groups to reduce health complications and costs.
