Unusually active spring 2025 sees nearly double the average U.S. tornado reports with 473 incidents.
Spring 2025 has seen an unusually active severe weather season, with 473 tornado reports across the U.S., nearly double the average for this time of year.
This includes a major outbreak from March 13-17 that produced 118 tornadoes and 42 deaths in the South and Midwest, and another outbreak from April 2-7 that produced 92 tornadoes mainly in the mid-South.
John Wheeler, Chief Meteorologist for WDAY, has been monitoring these patterns.
While active spring weather in the South can produce snow and winter weather in the north, there is no direct link to summer weather in the Northern Plains.
