Irish chaplain forgave teen who stabbed him seven times in protest against army's Mali mission.
An Irish army chaplain, Fr Paul Murphy, forgave and hugged the 17-year-old boy who pleaded guilty to attempting to murder him in August 2024.
The boy, who was 16 at the time, stabbed Fr Murphy seven times at Renmore Barracks in Galway.
The attack was not targeted at Fr Murphy but was a protest against the Irish Defence Forces' work in Mali, motivated by a "radicalized Islamist mindset."
During the sentencing hearing, Fr Murphy expressed hope that the boy would learn to live positively and contribute to society.
