Alabama governor backs bill for shark alert system named after survivor Lulu Gribbin.
Governor Kay Ivey supports a proposed law in Alabama that would establish a shark alert system for beaches in Baldwin and Mobile counties.
The system, named after Lulu Gribbin, a 16-year-old shark attack survivor, would send wireless alerts about shark attacks or credible reports of shark activity that pose a threat to beachgoers.
The bill, introduced by Representative David Faulkner, has been approved by a state committee and would be managed by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
Similar federal legislation has also been introduced.
