Harvard study finds healthy diets boost chances of aging well, while poor diets hinder it.
A Harvard study tracking over 100,000 Americans aged 40-60 for up to 30 years found that adhering to healthy diets, such as those rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, legumes, unsaturated fats, and low-fat dairy, increased the likelihood of healthy aging. Consuming high amounts of trans fats, sodium, sugary drinks, and red or processed meats was linked to lower odds of healthy aging. The study, published in Nature Medicine, emphasizes the importance of diet in maintaining good health into older age.
