Irish court upholds suspended sentence for driver who caused severe injuries to a child.
The Court of Appeal in Ireland has upheld a two-year suspended sentence for Emmett Rigney, a 22-year-old convicted of dangerous driving that caused severe brain injuries to a five-year-old girl.
The DPP argued the sentence was too lenient, but the court recognized the harm caused while agreeing with the original sentencing.
Rigney was also ordered to pay €10,000 in compensation and was banned from driving for six years.
