Victoria, Australia, faces prison cell crisis as mold infestations make new cells unusable.

Hundreds of new prison cells in Victoria, Australia, have been left uninhabitable due to black mold infestations at the Metropolitan Remand Centre in Ravenhall and Barwon Prison in Lara. Part of a $753.4 million expansion, the project aimed to add 243 beds at the prison and 212 at the remand center. Premier Jacinta Allan called the workmanship "substandard," and the government is prepared to take contractors to court if they fail to fulfill their obligations. Despite the expected rise in the prison population, the government insists there are enough beds to handle the influx.
